Bodhgaya
|
Near
the holy city of Gaya, the Buddha attained
enlightenment. The tree that had sheltered
him came to be known as the Bodhi Tree
and The place Bodhgaya. Today Bodhgaya,
an important place of pilgrimage, has
a number of monasteries.

Varanasi
|
It is
situated along the west bank of the Ganges.
Iit is one of the most important pilgrimage
centers in India for Hindus. It is also
a major tourist attraction. It has been
a centre of learning and civilisation
for over 2,000 years. It is also known
as Banaras. Ten km Away from here, is
Sarnath where the Buddha first preached
his message of enlightenment 2,400 years
ago. Tulsi Das, the famous poet who wrote
Ramayana in Hindi, belonged to this city.
Even today, Varanasi is the centre of
learning for Sanskrit scholars.
Hindus consider it auspicious to meet
their end here. It is believed that one
will attain salvation if one's life ends
here.

The
string of bathing ghats on the west bank
of the Ganges is the principal attraction
of Varanasi. There are over 100 ghats here.
The bathing ghats and the burning ghats
are separately situated. It is believed
that a dip in the bathing ghats here, cleanses
one of all sins. At the burning ghats, bodies
are cremated. Some of these ghats are owned
by former princely rulers. The ghats here
are divided caste wise. The Dasaswamedh
Ghat is one of the important ghats here.
It is said that Lord Brahma sacrificed 10
horses here.

Trivandrum
|
Thiruvananthapuram
(formerly, Trivandrum), the capital of
the Indian state of Kerala, lies on the
southwest coast of India. The place is
well connected to most of the other major
cities of India through rail, road, and
air network. The city derives its name
from Thiru Anantha Puram, which means
the town of Anantha. In fact, Anantha
is the deity at the Sree Anantha Padmanabhaswami
Temple, a major landmark of the city believed
to be several thousands years old.Legend
has it that traders came to Thiruvananthapuram
as far back as AD 190 for spices, sandalwood,
and ivory.

Leh
|
Ladakh
is a land abounding in awesome physical
features, set in an enormous and spectacular
environment. Bounded by two of the world's
mightiest mountain ranges, the Karakoram
in the north and the Great Himalaya in
the south, it is traversed by two other
parallel chains, the Ladakh Range and
the Zanskar Range. Sightseeing of the
historic monuments and major Buddhist
gompas (monasteries) are the main attractions
of Ladakh. The capital, since the building
of its nine-storey Leh Palace in the early
17th century. A few kilometres up the
Indus is Shey Palace, the most ancient
capital, with its palace and temples.

Dharamsala
|
The
High snow clad Dhauladhar ranges of the
Himalayas form a magnificent backdrop
to the hill resort of Dharamsala. This
is the principal township of Kangra district
and overlooks the wide spread of the plains.
With dense pine and deodar forests. Numerous
streams, cool healthy air, attractive
surroundings and the nearby snowline,
Dharamsala has everything for a perfect
holiday. It is full of life and yet peaceful.
And therefore the headquarters of His
Holiness the Dalai Lama are here.

Covering
a wide area in the form of twin settlement,
Lower Dharamsala (1380m) is a busy commercial
centre. While upper Dharamsala (1830m)
with the suburbs of Mcleodganj and Forsytheganj,
retains a British flavour and colonial
lifestyle.
Also visit Mcleodganj - the residence
of His Holiness Dalai Lama. The Tibetan
Government-in-exile has been here for
over three decades.
